04.02.2006 (Sat) Trekkies Lunar New Year Celebration

StarTrek.com.sg organised a Chinese New Year Yu-Sheng Buffet Dinner on 4 February 2006 (Sat) at Parc Vista private condominium.

The turnout for the grand function was overwhelming, over 17 Trekkies attended the events, including Trekkies Dr EMH, Garak, lhs1701, Superstar, Techmech, Dori, CptJames, lanman, Josh, Fahmi, deLancie, Jacle, Valdore, sharkie, Sgt_Yek, Vince and daleth.

We started with a Sci-Fi Video Screening at the Video Lounge, level 2 of Parc Vista Clubhouse, from 10.00am to 5.00pm.

We watched the Dune, Event Horizon, and other science fiction shows.

Yu-Sheng Dinner

"Yu-Sheng" is a Chinese word, literally means Raw Fish. It has always been a delicacy appetizer among the Chinese during the New Year festive period.

This year our "Yu-Sheng" was prepared by Trekkie lhs1701's wife. To ensure everyone, including our Muslim fans, could enjoy the dish, we had a Vegetarian "Yu-Sheng".

The way to taste "Yu-Sheng" is to invite everyone to use their chopsticks to mix the shredded vegetables and other ingredients together ... the higher we mix the food, the more prosperity the new year would be. This process is known as "Low Hay".

In addition to Yu-Sheng, we have prepared lots of other food for the buffet feast ...

• Roasted Chicken
• Sushi mixed cubes
• Curry puffs, spring rolls, fish balls and other finger food from Old Chang Kee
• Xing Zhao fried mee hoon from Bagus Halal Foodcourt (Banquet)
• Seafood fried rice from Bagus Halal Foodcourt (Banquet)
• Mandarin oranges
• Soft drinks and other refreshment
• Finally for dessert ... an award-winning Marble Cheese Cake from Secret Recipe! (Kindly donated by the Webmaster)

All the dishes served are halal certified.

Star Trek Communiquez Forums Anniversary

On 20 December 2005, our StarTrek.com.sg Communiquez Forums celebrated its 1,000th-day Anniversary! To commemorate the anniversary, the Forums Administrators organised a Contest in guessing the exact day of the anniversary.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the contest is ... Mr Vincent Lim (a.k.a. Vince). Vince won himself a miniature Enterprise-D starship model from Furuta. The prize is kindly donated by Trekkie Dr EMH.

Party Games #1 - Treasure Hunt!

The first game was a group game - Treasure Hunt ... in Star Trek style!

Trekkies were divided into 4 teams, each with 3 members. Each team was to select a type of "Ang Bao" (Red Packet).

The objective of the treasure hunt was to search for similar "Ang Bao" which were hidden somewhere within the party hall. Inside each "Ang Bao", there was a small piece of a puzzle. When all 9 "Ang Bao" were collected, the team would have to arrange the pieces into a picture, and solve the puzzle by telling everyone the name of the person or object of the picture.

Representatives from each 4 teams come forward and choose their respective type of "Ang Bao".

And the game begin! ... Trekkie Techmech was the first one to search and destroy!

Could it be underneath the seats?

Could it be inside the drawers?

Team 4 - "Mon Capitan" was the first to gather all 9 "Ang Bao", and formed the picture. But it took them a while to answer the name of the person in the picture. And finally the team successfully provided the right answer ... Amelia Earhart, a character appeared in Star Trek Voyager series.

Congratulations, Team "Mon Capitan" ... each of you has won a Star Trek novels, kindly donated by Trekkie Chakotay Kolopak.

Party Games #2: Star Trek CCG Bingo!

Backed by popular demand, Star Trek Bingo returned!

This time, every contestant was given a Star Trek CCG card to choose from. The game was divided into 3 rounds, each round has a winner, and each winner walked away with a Star Trek prize.

Round 1: As long as ALL the "Integrity", "Cunning" and "Strength" of the character in the CCG card were being called, the contestant would win.

The hosts calling up the Bingo number on "Integrity", "Cunning" and "Strength".

Round 2: As long as NONE of the "Integrity", "Cunning" and "Strength" of the character in the CCG card were being called, the last contestant left standing would win.

Round 3: Not only ALL the "Integrity", "Cunning" and "Strength" of the character in the CCG card have to be matched, the "Species" (Federation, Klingon, Romulan) have to be matched as well, in order to win.

Party Games #3: Star Trek Trivia!

The last party game was Star Trek Trivia. Unlike the previous Trivia games, the trivia questions would not be asked by the game hosts, but by the audience themselves!

Every contestant was given a choice to choose a topic from a bag. The host will announce to the audience the topic of the trivia, and the audience can start to ask the contestant all sorts of trivia questions relating to the topic.

The contestant was given 2 minutes to answer as many trivia questions correctly as possible. The highest number of questions answered correctly would win. There were 5 prizes to be won, including the grand price ... an authentic autograph from Admiral Forest (ST:ENT)!!!

Trekkies were delighted to enjoyed the award-Winning Marble Cheese Cake from Secret Recipe for dessert.

After the party was over, several Trekkies including Garak, Dr EMH and Josh proceed for a late-night supper - Taiwanese Porridge at Orchard till 3.30am.
