As invited by MovieMania.com.sg, StarTrek.com.sg participated in the Cathay Grand Opening on 23 March 2006 with our own costumers, working together with other 50 costumers side-by-side.
A total of 5 Trekkies from StarTrek.com.sg have taken part in the Cathay Grand Opening, including:
- Trekkie Dr EMH, Costumer (Klingon Starfleet Officer, Lieutenant Commander Worf, son of Mogh).
- Trekkie Dori, Costumer (Ferengi Starfleet Officer, Lieutenant Nog, nephew of Quark).
- Trekkie Supestar, Make-up Artist and Minder.
- Trekkie Techmech, Photographer and Minder.
- Trekkie Lhs1701, Photographer and Minder.
As StarTrek.com.sg is a non-profit fansite, our participation in the function was purely on a voluntary basis without any payment.
All payment to our costumers and helpers were re-donated back to MovieMania.com.sg.
Day 1 - Rehearsal
The Day One rehearsal did not involve the costumers and photographers, but mainly on the minders and caddies who were briefed by the Cathay staff on the roles and programmes schedules.
The role of a minder is to look after the costumer(s) whom was assigned to him or her. As costumers may be in full mask and gears, their movement is rather restricted, and they may also lose sense of time and direction. Hence it's the duty of the minder to lead the costumers to the designated places for appearance, to direct the flow of crowds, and to monitor break time intervals. In short, the minder is a nanny and manager of the costumers.
Over 1,100 guests were invited on the Cathay Grand Opening night. The role of a caddie is to serve the guests with popcorn and ice-cream at the cinema where some classical movies would be screened.
